The Casino Dealer

The surveillance officers play a crucial role in the casino because they keep an eye out for card cheats and other suspicious behaviour from players and employees.
Working in this position doesn’t require a special degree or certification. People with this job qualify with a high school diploma or prior experience working in security. With a decent pay and benefits, casino surveillance officers have a stable job earning an average of $25,000-$37,000 USD per year. Plus they get to experience the excitement of busting anyone who tries to rip off the house.
Pit Bosses
With a title like pit boss, who wouldn’t feel intrigued to find out what these guys do behind the scenes? The pit bosses (or as many call them today, the pit managers) supervise the gaming tables and staff on the floor. You might see them dressed in suits circulating among the casino tables and slot machines to make sure everything runs smoothly. They also handle customer service and deal with complaints or perhaps even rowdy players. Sometimes, the pit managers also organize activities for players.
As a management position, working as a pit boss requires prior experience working at a casino. Typically, a pit boss has relevant experience working at casinos and has taken special gaming management classes. This position also requires a license from the local gaming commission.
The Professional Gambler
So far, we have only talked about the guys on the inside of the house. While many look at gambling as a fun activity or hobby, professional gamblers do exist. In fact, plenty of people make a good living working as a pro gambler playing games like poker or blackjack or winning in sports betting.
Of course, not everyone has what it takes to make it as a professional gambler. This highly skilled position requires a lot of experience and knowledge of the games so that they consistently turn the odds in their favour. Still, those who have mastered the games can make a huge profit. Take Ryan Riess, for example, the champion of the 2013 World Series of Poker. Reiss won first place and a prize worth $8 million. A casino has a lot of cogs in the machine working together to make it all happen. In addition to these jobs, casinos need staff of all levels to help keep things running, from chefs, waiters, and bartenders to accountants and slot technicians.
